Format of the final exam

In general the format of this exam will be very similar to the other exams. The new part is the identification of types of objects as well as specific objects. I tried to minimize the amount of writing for you by making a large part of the questions be answered by one word. Please note that there is a section on the HR diagram similar to what was on the first exam, and a section on evolutionary paths on the HR diagram similar to what was on the second exam.

Image identification: For part of this you will be asked to identify different types of objects such as: emission nebula, reflection nebula, dark nebular, open cluster, globular cluster, and planetary nebula.  Look here for examples of the different types of objects.

You will also need to identify the major types of galaxies, e.g. spiral, barred spiral, elliptical, and irregular. You do not need to know the sub types (e.g.  a,b,c for spirals and 0 - 7 for ellipticals). Look here for examples of galaxy types.
