Assignments:

For Class Wednesday: Lunar Exploration.  This is a graded assignment (10% of your "assignments" grade);

First check out the National Space Science Data Center overview page of the Moon: http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/planets/moonpage.htm . Just scan through this main page get a feel for what information is available. Next scan down through the Lunar Exploration Time Line: http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/lunar/lunartimeline.html

Research the lunar mission assigned to you below. Prepare a one to two page summary of the mission. Include: agency/country, launch date, length of mission, mission/science objectives, type of instruments aboard, type of measurements made (or to be made), etc.  A bulleted list is fine. Bring this summary to class. You'll use it in class, and then turn it in after class for a grade.  During class, you'll have 20 minutes to work with the other people assigned to your mission to prepare a 5 minute presentation on the key points of the mission. In the last 40 minutes of class, each group will give their presentation. By the end of class, I hope you each have a sense of the breadth of lunar exploration currently underway!
