Announcements:

1) Check out this nice math review site from Nick Strobel.

2) On the text book companion website, http://wps.prenhall.com/esm_chaisson_astronomytoday_5 you can find sample test questions. Click on the chapter number at the top, then on the left side bar click on "Study Guide" for some multiple choice questions or "Practice Problems" for problems.

Assignments:

1) Advanced Warning!
Bonus Assignment 2 due next week Monday in class: Review of image web sites
. Due Monday Sept. 17. In this assignment you will explore and write a review of some of the web sites holding information about astronomical images. Go to three of the first five image web sites listed on the class links page (skip the "Photo Catalog of Messier Objects"). After you have looked at the three web sites and explored the information presented on each, make a list ranking the sites in order of overall usefulness. By overall usefulness you should consider: 1) quality of information, 2) quantity of information, and 3) ease of use. For each site give a brief description of the types of information available, its level of detail, how it was organized, whether it had links to other sources, etc. and discuss why you placed it where you did in your ranking. Lets use a five point (or five star!) rating scale, with 5 being the highest. You will make use of these image sites in later assignments, so you can save yourself some time later by learning about what each one has to offer now.

2) Looking further ahead: Information on the upcoming Constellation Guide assignment can be found at this link: Constellation Guide Assignment. This assignment counts as part of your "Assignments" grade, and is due on Friday, Sept 21. Plan ahead, and get started soon!
